Every Memorial Day, many in our community visit local cemeteries to pay their respects to those who served in the United States Armed Forces.

This Memorial Day, Beneva Flowers is an official Memorial Day Florist in Sarasota and participating in the nationwide Memorial Day Flowers program and will set up a stand at Sarasota National Cemetery to give out roses to visitors.

Each visitor will receive 2 roses.  1 to place on a headstone to honor someone who served, another to take home in memory.

Beneva Flowers often supports various good causes, however this one is special and we are privileged to participate in honoring the people and families that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Flowers are a form of emotional expressions and a single stem placed on a headstone is an appropriate show of respect.

This program was started in 2012 at the Arlington Cemetery and this year, expanding around the USA to bring recognition to those to made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and their families. Thanks to the Herald Tribune who printed his story today, we have our volunteers to assist in our efforts. The roses are being donated by growers who want to help florists give back to our community. We are proud to only work with Fair Trade certified growers who care about the working environments of their employees and also our Veteran’s on such a special holiday like Memorial day. One of the effects of the fair trade system is that you are empowering people by not only paying them fair wages but also offering classes in rudimentary finance, accounting and project management to manage extra money they are paid. Beneva Flowers will only deal with certified growers who support Fair Trade practice.

Yes local companies can also create a buzz and excitement selling flowers even if you don’t get it on the Superbowl. At 3.5 million the over 2 minute commercial created locally is in my opinion as fun to watch as anything I have yet to see airing tonight. Not only do I feel it is well done and allows people watching to interact and win a prize, it conveys how flowers can bring so many messages together in one hand delivered gift from a local florist. If you can guess and post on YOU TUBE how many hearts are in the bouquet you see in the commercial, you could win Gift cards from Ruth’s Chris steakhouse to Beneva Flowers and even tickets to see the great Nik Wallenda perform. Since 1986 that has been our mission. Weddings were where the expression “Exceeding Your Expectations” started. When a bride visits our florist, they know we want to be a part of their new future together as well as. To do this we must always be fair and truly exceed expectations. Brides are, in many cases, overwhelmed from news stories, pictures online and so many options it can be a very confusing. When it comes to wedding planning, we like to listen and suggest, not sell. It is all about the bride and groom, it is their day. It is important to earn trust which is most important to us. There is no second chance.

Valentine’s Day offers limitless opportunities to make that special someone in your life feel loved. Dinner, is just one the vehicles to that could take the 2 of you down the road of romance. Movie dates, significant places the 2 of you may share or even a home cooked meal made with a dash of love and a hint of passion. Whatever it may be, gathering ideas now could make or break your efforts for Feb. 14.

It’s arrived…February 14…What’s the plan? 

• What time is my reservation? 

(Don’t forget to make a reservation as early as possible for your special night. Valentine’s Day is on a Thursday this year so plan accordingly based on the restaurant’s popularity during that time.) 

• Are you having anything delivered? 

(If your going out to dinner or having it at home, an essential part of it will be the arrangement you chose sitting close by. IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE YOUR FLOWERS ON THE TABLE IN THE RESTAURANT. You could have them delivered before hand or select a few out of the arrangement to have featured at the table. Be careful not to over do it though, you don’t want the flowers taking over the table. If you happen to choose a restaurant without a selection of champagnes, consider bringing your own and having it brought to the table after it’s chilled. 

• Cooking at home? 

(Don’t wait until the Feb. 13 to look up a recipe or do a little shopping for the meal. Find a recipe ahead of time and write a list of ingredients you will need to pick up. Break out the nice table settings and create a romantic mood. Another great touch would be to prepare an elegant menu that might match the mood of the meal. Don’t forget the arrangement either, make sure to leave room for the beautiful Valentine’s Day selection you have chosen.)
